ATTORNEYS - Tyler T. Ray

Practice Areas
In today's highly regulated business environment, the line between law and business has become increasingly blurred. Tyler T. Ray comes to Duffy & Sweeney armed with an MBA and five years of business law experience as in-house counsel at Cookson Group PLC. Tyler understands the broad interests of his clients and applies that knowledge to break down problems and issues that are at the core of every decision. Through this value-added approach, Tyler provides practical solutions to business problems with a focus on the areas of corporate, intellectual property and employment law.

Work for Clients
Tyler handles a variety of corporate issues, including general corporate law (for-profit and not-for-profit), contracts, corporate finance, commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate compliance programs.

In the area of intellectual property, Tyler works closely with firm clients on the development, protection and enforcement of trademarks, patents and copyrights and the licensing of such intellectual property on a worldwide basis. Specifically, with regard to trademarks, Tyler understands the client focus on branding and is able to provide a no-nonsense practical approach on often complex legal issues. He is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), a not-for-profit association of more than 5,900 trademark owners and professionals, from more than 190 countries, dedicated to the support and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property.

Tyler also has an in-depth understanding of employment law issues in the workplace, offering preventative counseling to human resource and business professionals in day-to-day issues such as discrimination, termination, non-compete and wage-and-hour disputes. He has presented several legal seminars on employment trends and risk management and represented clients at numerous state human rights commissions.

Professional Activities
As a Bryant University MBA alumni, Tyler has been actively involved in the 2011 Alumni New Venture Competition where he served as a judge and speaker. Tyler is Secretary of the Board of Directors for Farm Fresh Rhode Island, a local non-profit organization dedicated to building a sustainable local food network integrating Rhode Island farms and their produce to consumers around the state. Tyler is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, American Bar Association, INTA and a former member of New England Labor Council, a consortium of in-house employment law attorneys in the New England area.

Education
A 2005 graduate of Roger Williams University School of Law, Tyler earned honors distinction in several subject areas. He received an MBA in 2008 from Bryant University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Hobart College in Geneva, NY, in 2000.

Tyler served as a judicial intern for Providence Supreme Court Justice Gilbert Indeglia (then Superior Court) and as a congressional intern in the Washington, DC office of Senator Susan M. Collins (R-Maine).
