Practice Areas
Charles Schmidt, a partner in the firm, concentrates his practice on
technology and business law. He often advises clients — multi-national corporations, emerging technology companies and entrepreneurs — on both the business and technology issues that impact their workplaces. These include: domestic and international technology acquisition, distribution and licensing, and intellectual property protection involving copyrights and trademarks.
Work for Clients
Chuck represents, as outside general counsel, public and private companies involved in diverse businesses, including software, hardware, e-commerce, information technology, professional services, financial services, publishing, and manufacturing. He counsels clients on matters of corporate governance, international subsidiaries, employment law and employee relations as well as the related regulatory compliance issues. He has developed a special focus on data protection and privacy issues which span technology and business at every level.
Professional Experience
Chuck joined Duffy & Sweeney in 2005 after an eleven-year legal career at several public and private technology companies, including eCredit.com, Inc., where he served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary.

Professional Affiliations
Chuck is a member of the Board of Directors for the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce. The organization includes 1,000 member businesses and is devoted to strengthening the economic climate through business leadership that fosters member and community prosperity.
Chuck is a member of the American Bar Association and its section on Intellectual Property Law as well as a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. He is an integral member of Tech Collective, a technology industry association working to drive technology growth and innovation, where he serves as a director and secretary.
