Practice Areas
John E. Scholhamer (Ted) practices in the areas of general corporate, securities, and mergers and acquisitions law.

Work for Clients
Ted represents privately held businesses, entrepreneurs and investors in a broad range of corporate, commercial and securities matters such as formation and organization; private placements of debt and equity; commercial, real estate and tax credit financings; mergers and acquisitions; executive and equity compensation; establishing foreign operations; and shareholder disputes.

Recently, Ted has worked with clients on the following matters:

  • Series A preferred stock financing for a local software company;
  • Sale of a Massachusetts based industrial equipment manufacturer to a leading middle market private equity fund for $65 million;
  • Sale of a national branded retail beverage manufacturer to an international alcoholic spirits and beverage manufacturer;
  • Sale of a Massachusetts based seafood processing company to a foreign private equity group;
  • Acquisition, financing and operation of a well-known Newport restaurant;
  • Acquisition, financing, development and renovation of a historic Rhode Island inn involving senior, mezzanine, and state/federal tax credit financing; and
  • Acquisition of an exclusive sublicense to sell and manufacture wind turbines in North America for an international wind turbine manufacturer and distributor.

Before joining Duffy & Sweeney, Ted served as intern to a private equity fund of funds in Cambridge, Massachusetts and legal intern to FINRA.

Outside Duffy & Sweeney
Ted is a member of the Providence Preservation Society Winter Bash Committee, the Rhode Island Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and Rhode Island Bar Association. Ted lives in Providence and Newport with his wife, Catherine, and in his spare time enjoys golf, tennis, skiing and spending time with his family.
