Duffy, Sweeney and Scott Named Super Lawyers
(November 2007) Firm partners Bob Duffy, Mike Sweeney and Craig Scott were selected as Super Lawyers and recognized in the publication New England Super Lawyers for 2007. Patrick Guida Joins Firm As A Partner
(November 2007) We welcome Patrick A. Guida as a partner in our Business Law group. A seasoned banking and real estate practitioner with more than two decades of experience, Mr. Guida will continue to represent banks, non-bank lenders, real estate developers and other business clients in a wide range of sophisticated transactions and financings. Mr. Guida holds the Martindale Hubbell rating AV, the highest rating given to attorneys, as well as several notable professional awards and distinctions.
Michael Sweeney Featured Speaker At Bar Association Business Event
(October 2007) Michael Sweeney recently served as a speaker on business law and national trends that impact business for the Rhode Island Bar Association’s “Recent Developments in the Law” day-long program. Mike is a regular speaker/moderator at RIBA forums on business law. He is the past chair of the Business Organizations Committee of RIBA where he led the three-year initiative to enact the new Rhode Island Business Corporation Act, which took effect on July 1, 2005. Charles Henderson Joins Litigation Team
(October 2007) We welcome Charles Henderson, III, to Duffy Sweeney & Scott as a litigation associate. Chad concentrates his practice in business and commercial litigation including intellectual property. Chad spent five years at the New York City law firm of Quirk and Bakalor where he represented clients in commercial, intellectual property, product liability, and general liability disputes. Prior to law school, Chad spent six years at the United States Senate in the Office of the Sergeant at Arms. He is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law, American University and Choate Rosemary Hall.

Partner Stacey Nakasion Wins Case of First Impression In Wickford
(July 2007) Rhode Island Superior Court Associate Justice Judith Savage broke new legal ground by adopting a standard for what constitutes a "willful or knowing" violation of the Open Meetings Act. “The Court's recent decision is the first in Rhode Island to address the standard for proving a willful or knowing violation of the Open Meetings Act,” said Duffy Sweeney & Scott’s Stacey Nakasian. The decision came in phase two of the action Ohs v. North Kingstown School Committee, et al. After the first trial, Judge Savage found that the School Committee and its Superintendent violated the notice provisions of the Open Meetings Act when it voted in May 2005 to close the historic Wickford Elementary School. Four Duffy Sweeney & Scott attorneys achieve honors

Michael Sweeney was elected as a Fellow of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation. Fellows of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation are those members of the Rhode Island Bar Association selected for such professional honor by the board of Directors of the Foundation whose professional, public and private careers have demonstrated their outstanding dedication to the welfare of the community and maintenance of the objectives of the Foundation.
Ralph Gaboury was appointed to the Board of Trustees for First Works Providence.
